Evolution
The increasingly severe environmental pollution necessitates active necessitates protect the environment and strengthen prevention and control of public hazards, in order to prevent continued destruction of the quality of the national living environment. The Executive Yuan passed the "Strengthening the Environmental Protection Project in Taiwan" to promote the environmental protection profession at the 1627th Executive Yuan Administrative Meeting on April 19, 1979. In 1988, the Taiwan Provincial Government approved the establishment of environmental protection bureaus in 12 counties and cities according to the requirements of the times and society's surrounding awareness. On September 1, 1988, the Taiwan Provincial Government ordered the establishment of the Taichung County and Taichung City Environmental Protection Bureaus. On December 25, 2010, the central government merged the county and city and upgraded them into the Environmental Protection Bureau of the Taichung City Government.

Taichung City, a special municipality, geographically locates on high mountains, plains, and major rivers (including the Daan River, Dajia River, and Wu River) and faces the Taiwan Strait. Culturally, it belongs to a diverse pattern of densely populated metropolitan areas, satellite cities, and low population-density rural and indigenous areas. The city area is 2214.6968 square kilometers, with a population of 2.81 million. This city has industries such as traditional and high-tech industries.

We have formulated various environmental protection policies and sustainable development strategies by leveraging our environmental advantages, macro thinking, and responding to world trends and currents. And with "smart technology, clean and sustainable" as the governance vision to build four core values, including "improvement of air quality improvement," "water and soil environment protection," "circular economy implementation," and "homeland cleaning."

The bureau uses intelligent technology to coordinate local natural, cultural, and historical conditions, actively promoting relevant businesses and improving environmental benefits to create a clean and sustainable city. In terms of air quality improvement, we follow the principles of "public before private and large before small" to assist various air pollution improvement strategies. For water quality protection, we are committed to guiding the reduction of pollution sources, promoting the effective treatment and reuse of animal husbandry wastewater, encouraging the city's farmland soil pollution prevention and control plan, and handling groundwater pollution prevention and control work to improve the quality and safety of the water environment. Environmental cleanliness and sanitation are indicators of progress in urban living standards. The cleanliness of public toilets, closely related to our lives, is even more significant. The bureau also takes the lead in 100% green procurement implementation. And drive private enterprises to purchase green products in the first place, achieving a win-win situation for environmental protection and the economy. We aim to utilize the preventive function of the environment to enable all people enjoy a healthy and safe living environment.

The bureau been dedicated to environmental resources protection since its establishment , and we will continue to prioritize public affairs and adhere to the concepts of professionalism, technology, and education in the future. Our policies include:
1. Prioritize public affairs before private affairs and strictly controlling

(4) Implement the best feasible control technology for sizable fixed pollution sources 
(5) Strengthen in-depth inspection of primary pollution sources

(8) Promote low-pollution vehicles to build and improve the environment for electric vehicles

(1) Expand the management of community sewage health clinics and improve water conservation and environmental quality
